The digital revolution is turning traditional marketing on its head. If hospitals are going to reach patients where they live, social media is essential. But social media for hospitals is not without risks. After 22 years of experience marketing hospitals and healthcare, we created Hive Strategies to provide essential guidance to help hospitals safely and effectively use the power of social media to engage patients in remarkable ways. Our firm is headquartered in McMinnville, Oregon, with an office in Moorpark, California.
Dan Hinmon, Principal

Dan Hinmon has been working in advertising, marketing and public relations since 1975, including a stint as a hospital marketing director. For 22 years he was president of Hinmon Agency, a full service advertising, marketing, public relations and design firm that served a variety of clients, including hospitals, physician clinics, and health plans. In 2010 Dan founded Hive Strategies to help hospitals engage patients through social media.
Dan holds a bachelors degree in political science and is a community mediator with strong listening, communication and presentation skills. Dan has a lifetime of experience helping clients connect with customers.
Jean Kelso Sandlin, Ed.D., Senior Strategist

Dr. Jean Kelso Sandlin has more than 20 years professional experience in advertising, public relations and journalism. She has served on the staffs of nonprofit agencies, including United Way and the Oregon Children’s Foundation. As public relations director and creative director of an advertising agency, she’s represented healthcare clients since 2000.
Sandlin has a bachelor’s degree in communication, a master’s degree in public administration and a doctorate in higher education leadership. An assistant professor of communication at California Lutheran University, she teaches social media strategy in her courses in public relations and advertising. Her practical experience is complemented by her research interests, which include social media strategy, authenticity in new media, and storytelling in new media.

For three decades Sandy Hinmon has been connecting people in real life by starting a non-profit cancer foundation, running political campaigns, collaborating with community leaders, mentoring young women and mediating conflicts. Now, she connects people in the virtual world by directing special projects for Hive Strategies.
